Up-Up, Down-Down, Left-Right Left-Right, B-A-B-A

I have no idea. I'm still obsessed with old NES games this week. Thank goodness for my USB nintendo controllers and the Nestopia emulator. I can play Contra and Contra 2 and Super Mario Brothers (1,2,3).
I have no idea about the origins of this song. It's a clean, simple rendition of the Contra and Zelda game tracks.

The square pixels of my heart
Every once in a while, I grow profoundly nostalgic for my old Nintendo. Like, there's a funny little ache in my hands to hold that sweaty, grey controller. To park the tip of my right thumb on that slightly concave red "B" button, and run fast across a side scrolling screen.

Many of the musicians that grew up in the 80s and early 90s were marked by the sounds of the original NES. Those tinny, electronic melodies that skipped and dotted across our Saturday and Sunday afternoons are reappearing in indie pop songs everywhere. Below is an example of what I'm guessing is NES-inspired electropopclashindiewhateveryouwannacallit music.

Cover Sunday: Michelle Malone's Style
Was talking about "Wild Horses" this morning with the girlfriend, and shortly thereafter, rediscovered this beautiful cover of it by Michelle Malone. We've all heard this song a million times, and after a while, it loses its luster. But Malone breathes new life into this classic Stones' tune. Her raspy voice fills each note with gorgeous texture. Something you'd hear at an unfamiliar saloon far from home, and you'd cry, and then drive away and forget it ever happened.
